Puppies and kittens, foals and cubs, babies of all species – are they not just the cutest beings to watch and photograph? “These are a few of my favourite things”. Something draws us closer and our heart strings are pulled, we cannot help but feel all soft and fuzzy inside. Unlike humans, the animal kingdom is driven largely by instinct. We live on a planet where the more we learn the more we realise how little we know.

Intuition: The state of being aware of or knowing something without having to discover or perceive it, or the ability to do this. Sixth sense, a hunch, a premonition, instinct and insight

We all at some stage in our lives have major obstacles to overcome which requires our full attention and this inevitably results in neglect in other areas we are not focussing on at that specific time. I have been on an interesting (retrospectively speaking) journey lately and have learned some deep profound lessons about myself and those in my midst. One of those lessons is what prompted this Thought - Intuition. What can be said to validate this enigma? Is there an explanation? Is there any verification that it exists? How do we know what it is and if it is?

“The only real valuable thing is intuition.” Albert Einstein

It is almost enigmatic when we realise that animals do not need survival lessons. They need no instruction manual on when to lay eggs, how to care for their young, when to hibernate, migrate or store for winter, when to fight or flee. In the wild they rely on instinct and their reasoning (if any) plays very little part when danger lurks. I have never seen a buck grazing happily in the midst of a lioness, or a rat nesting next to a batch of snake eggs!

Have we lost the ability to hear our inner voice because we have become too civilised, tamed or educated? Are we so ensconced in keeping our minds busy with all sorts of things that we do not hear when Intuition knocks? Have we lost the ability to read a situation with instinct? We have become a society that wants instant gratification. We seldom take the time to think of the repercussions of our actions let alone listen to our sixth sense.

I tend to agree with Oprah in her description of intuition. She says it's a little nagging voice in the back of your mind. Sometimes we choose to explain away this “hunch” we get about a person or situation. When our suspicions turn out to be right, we proudly say, “I knew it all along!” - but did we do something about it when we first became suspicious? Oftentimes the answer is “No”. We all seem to logically explain away our premonitions or intuitions when we should really be listening to them intently and (I say this at the risk of being shouted down) acting on them.

I would like you all to take some time off this weekend to be alone.  Go for a walk in the park, close the door to your bedroom, and take a leisurely drive on a quiet road just to be with yourself and your thoughts. Ask yourself pertinent questions about things that bother you or you are faced with, and then muse over them for a while. You will find that during this process (it may take a few sessions for you to be able to hear clearly but don’t give up) you will probably get in touch with something less tangible than the present, something outside the conscious mind – it's your Intuition!  Grab it and run with it!

As Eileen Caddy said:  Cease trying to work everything out with your minds. It will get you nowhere. Live by intuition and inspiration and let your whole life be a revelation.

It is true that we most of time hear the inner voice but not act on it because we firstshare what we suspector feel with others to check if we are right, only to be told that we are over sensetive, always thinking of the worst or we just take life too serious. It is tre we take decisions without based on what is currently happening around us. Im encouraged to start listening to my inner voice.
